White water rafting and rock climbing were just some of the activities enjoyed by an Uxbridge scout group when they attended an International Scout Camp in Switzerland.
Twenty three members of the Polaris Explorer Scout Unit based at 1st Uxbridge Scouts attended the 10 day expedition, thanks in part to a grant of £1,000 from a regional housebuilder.
Persimmon Homes North London chose the group’s Polaris Explorer Scout Unit to be one of its monthly Community Champions. The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.
An international scout camp is held every four years, and is attended by up to 500 children and their leaders.
Organiser Jan Vanderplank said: “On behalf of the Polaris Explorer Scout Unit from Uxbridge, a huge thank you to Persimmon Homes for your donation to our expedition to Switzerland.
“The Unit had a brilliant time and took part in some great activities including zip wires across a river, white water rafting, rock climbing and a mountain hike staying overnight in a mountain hut.
“The money that Persimmon donated was used to cover the cost of some of these activities.”
Damian Seddon, director in charge at Persimmon Homes North London, said: “This is exactly the kind of grassroots organisation that we like to support, as it is clear that they provide a real service for youngsters in the community and must be greatly valued.”
“If people were unsuccessful last month in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
Community groups, charities and good causes across the region have benefitted thanks to donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
