YA Shot is a one-day Young Adult and Middle Grade literary festival on Saturday 14th October in Uxbridge (London). Around 50 top authors are taking part in a programme of over 30 workshops and panel discussions (plus signings).
YA Shot, a one-day, not-for-profit Young Adult and Middle Grade literary festival, is back for 2018! It is run in partnership with Hillingdon Borough Libraries and Waterstone’s Uxbridge, and supported by Arts Council England.
Around 50 top British authors are taking part in a jam-packed day of workshops and panel discussions (plus signings) in the Civic Centre, Waterstones Uxbridge and Uxbridge Library. From adventure to historical fiction, fantasy to crime, and comedy to sci-fi there are events for readers of all interests. There’s guaranteed to be something for everyone in this year’s diverse programme of fun and thought-provoking talks and workshops.
This year the festival will put the spotlight on human rights, exploring the presence and impact of this important theme in Young Adult and children’s literature. What impact do books have on the way society thinks about complex and often controversial human rights issues? How are difficult questions of human rights tackled in children’s literature? And does fiction really have the power to help solve some of the world’s most challenging problems? The festival will provide the opportunity to engage with these questions and many more.
For all the bloggers and vloggers out there, the UKYABAs are also returning for another year straight after YA Shot. Please check the website for more information.
The money raised from ticket sales supports a year-long Libraries-Schools Programme of up to 35 free author visits to a different library system each year. The chosen library group invites local children (with priority going to disadvantaged schools) to meet a fantastic author in order to inspire a love of reading, a passion for creative writing and aspirations to a career in the arts.
All-day tickets are £20 for an adult, £15 concession (including students and under 18s: minimum age 7, under 12s must be accompanied). Tickets are available direct from our Box Office on the website: www.yashot.co.uk. There are no booking, postage or other fees.
